Sing to the LORD, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
Psalm 96:2-3
Tammy Selby and Zach Love coordinate our
Let’s Start Talking
teams
– and they are doing a tremendous job! We have 5 teams going to
Germany, Japan, Tanzania, and Senegal this summer. Our giving helps
workers go share Jesus and share themselves through English conversation
about the gospel of Luke. It also allows our trainers and coordinators
to attend workshops and retreats designed to strengthen their leadership
and commitment. Pray that their training finishes up well and that God
will bring them many “readers”!
Mission Predisan, a Christian mission founded in 1986, provides
physical healing and spiritual hope at nine facilities in eastern
Honduras. In 2005, Predisan provided more than 42,000 health and
educational contacts through nine clinics and health centers and through
numerous educational and community initiatives. “We thank God for all
those whose donations and sacrificial service throughout these two
decades have sustained us!” Dr. Amanda Madrid, executive director and
Doña Doris Clark, founding missionary.
Camp Bill
Stivers in San Felipe, Mexico,
is a summer camp outreach to local children by the San Felipe church.
The camp was a beloved project of our former elder and brother, Bill Stivers, for some 40 years. University Church members work here at
least twice a year, and, according to Linda Truschke, “It changes
students’ lives.”
Mark Long
has been part of the ministry team of the
Kampala Church of Christ in
Uganda since 2002 and is a Pepperdine alum. His gift is being a “team
deacon” and he focuses on doing things to keep the rest of the ministry
teams in Uganda functioning as smoothly as possible. He builds, fixes,
and fills a variety of roles. “There are a lot of wonderful people
making sacrifices all over the states in order that I might remain over
here. I want to thank all of you very, very, very much. I wish I could
get each of you over here to see first hand what God is doing and how He
is touching lives…” Mark is a wonderful example of a student who did LST while at the University church and then went on to full time mission
work!
Joseph Dzamesi
works with the Sonrise Christian School in Ghana and is also a graduate
of Pepperdine. This term, 10 students have committed themselves to
Christ and 4 other students worked with a team of preachers to establish
a new church at Dambai. The school has received its provisional
registration certificate by the government, but needs our prayers for
the successful completion of that process as well as for funds for the
construction of new classroom buildings. Joseph will be speaking at the
Pepperdine Lectures this May – go check it out!
Marcus and Julia Rodriguez are missionaries in a limited-access
country in Asia and are alumni of Pepperdine as well. The Rodriguez’
spoke at the Pepperdine Lectures this year about the underground
churches in Asia and how we all can be involved. Currently, they are
working alongside their teammates and mentors, Gary and Danita Jackson,
as they serve a small network of house churches in the capital city of
this country. The Rodriguez’ plan to remain in Asia indefinitely,
planting churches and equipping national Christians to spread the Gospel
in their own country.
The Institute of Theology and Christian Ministry
in St. Petersburg, Russia seeks to train students to return to their
home congregations equipped to minister and strengthen the church while
being “salt” and “light” in their jobs in the community. There are 22
full-time students, nine of whom will graduate in April. Sasha and Olga
(pictured here) plan to return to Tomsk, Siberia and plant a new church
in a suburb. As he reflects on his studies Sasha states: "I see how
ITCM has helped me develop seriousness, perspective and sensitivity to
spiritual things in my life and the life of the church.”

Worship
Gary Selby, Servant Leader

Tech
Ministry
Providing technical service for congregational worship and beyond. This
group of “behind the scenes” volunteers work with projected visuals,
audio and lighting equipment, putting aside personal preferences for
worship styles, to help the congregation engage in worship and draw
closer to God. We provide a point of contact for all things technical,
train others, recommend practices and technology, establish metrics,
record and distribute sermon audio, and help maintain the church
website.
